This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure a Star Printer on a Windows PC, using either a Serial or Parallel port connection.

Getting Started

Add custom printer

  1. Go to Control Panel and open Printers & Faxes

  2. Click Add Printer

  3. Select Use Local Printer attached to this computer and click Next, Do NOT select auto detect my printer

  4. Setup accordingly:

    1. If the Printer is Serial/Parallel: Select Use an Existing Port and select the port the printer is connected to (USB or LPT if Parallel or COM if serial).

    2. If the Printer is TCP / IP / LAN: Select Create a new port then select Standard TCP/IP port. On the next step for Printer Name or IP Address, put the hostname or IP of your printer. If prompted for a device type on the next step select Generic Network card.

  5. When prompted for a Printer Manufacturer click Generic on the left, and Generic/Text Only on the right and click Next

  6. If prompted to keep the driver click Keep The Existing Driver and click Next

  7. Enter printer name (e.g. CleanCloud1) - remember this name as we will use it in CleanCloud and do NOT set it as the default printer. Click Next

  8. Do not share the printer and do NOT print a test page. Click Finish

Download and Install QZTray

πŸ“Œ Note: QZ Tray is software that enables CleanCloud to connect to Printers installed on your device.

You can use the following instructions or our dedicated QZTray article for a more in-depth explanation.

  1. QZTray is the software that CleanCloud uses to communicate with your printers and automatically print the receipts.

  2. Download the latest version of QZTray from https://qz.io/download/

  3. Once downloaded run the file to start the installation of QZTray

  4. Follow the instructions in the install wizard

  5. During the installation, a prompt box may appear asking you to install Java to proceed. If this box appears press OK to be taken to the Java download website. Click Agree and Download to download and install Java. Once Java has been successfully installed, return to the QZTray installation to finish it.

  6. Once QZTray has finished installing it will open QZTray. A little printer icon will appear in your system tray at the bottom right of your screen.

Configuring The Printer In CleanCloud

  1. Navigate to CleanCloud and Login

  2. From the New Order page, navigate to the top left and click the 3 Lines (Settings)

  3. From the list that now appears click, Hardware

  4. Scroll down to the Receipt printer section.

  5. Select Star as the printer manufacturer.

  6. Click on the Find Printer button and select the printer you have installed from the list.

  7. You can activate settings like Auto Print Receipt and Print Barcode.

  8. Press the Update button.

  9. If this is the first printer you've installed a box will appear asking for permission for CleanCloud to communicate with QZTray. You should check the always allow checkbox and press OK.

  10. The printer is now ready to use.
