Star Micronics mC-Print3 (USB) Printer Setup Guide

Step 1: Check if the Printer is Already Installed

  1. Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your computer via a USB cable.

  2. Open Control Panel on your Windows computer.

  3. Navigate to Devices and Printers (or Printers and Faxes for older versions of Windows).

  4. Check if the printer appears in the list of installed printers. It should be listed as Star mC-Print3.

    • If the printer is installed, skip to Step 3.

    • If it’s not installed, continue to Step 2.

For certain printers like the SP742 model, it is often recommended to use a USB connection instead of Ethernet. A USB setup is generally simpler, easier to maintain, and more reliable for most users.


Step 2: Install the Printer Driver

  1. Download the Star mC-Print3 printer driver.

  2. After downloading, unzip the file by right-clicking and selecting Extract All.

  3. Open the unzipped folder and double-click on Autorun.exe to start the installation.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  5. Open "Star mCollection Printer Utility", click "Create New", and select MCP31.

  6. Once completed, the printer should now show up in Control Panel as mC-Print3 or MCP31. It may take a few minutes to complete.


Step 3: Install QZTray

Download and install QZTray, an application that allows CleanCloud to connect to your printer via a web browser. Follow this QZTray setup guide for detailed installation instructions, and ensure that QZTray is running in the background on your computer.


Step 4: Add Printer to CleanCloud

  1. Log into your CleanCloud account.

  2. Go to Settings → Hardware.

  3. Scroll down to the Receipt Printer section.

  4. Select Star as the printer manufacturer.

  5. Click on the 'Find Printer' button and select the printer you have installed from the list.

  6. You can activate options like Auto Print Receipt and Print Barcode.

  7. Press the Update button.

  8. If this is your first printer setup, a box will appear asking for permission for CleanCloud to communicate with QZTray. You should check the Always Allow checkbox and press OK.

Try creating an order to test the printer and ensure everything is working smoothly.

If your printer is not functioning when connected via an Ethernet LAN cable, follow these steps:

  1. Verify LAN Cable Connection: Ensure the other end of the LAN cable is securely connected to the internet router.

  2. Check the Printer Power and Network Setup: Make sure the printer is powered on and the necessary network settings are configured.

  3. Inspect Router Functionality: Confirm that your router is functioning properly and providing an active internet connection.

  4. Seek Technical Assistance: If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider seeking remote assistance for further help specific to your printer model and setup.
