Heat seals give you a permanent, barcoded workflow for tracking garments. They are useful for dry cleaning and other businesses that need accurate item management.
A heat seal barcode is a label that stays on the garment. It lets you scan and track items through every stage of your process. CleanCloud works with both pre-printed barcodes and barcodes you print yourself.
Heat seals are important for features like Assisted Assembly and API integration. They support advanced automation in your business.
What is a heat seal
A heat seal is a permanent label pressed onto a garment. It usually has a barcode and barcode ID. You can buy them pre-printed or print your own with a compatible printer.
Pre-printed heat seal barcodes
You can use pre-printed heat seal barcodes in CleanCloud. Here’s what you need to know:
Length: Use 1–12 digits. Best options are 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 digits. For fewer issues, use a consistent length, ideally 10, 11, or 12 digits.
Starting digit: Do not start with 0 or a comma. In multi-store setups, use different starting digits for each store or use the same digit for all if sharing a database.
Symbology: If a supplier asks for a symbology code, use their standard one.
Supplies: Stock #HSL1BK from Cleaner Supply → works if the barcode does not start with a comma.
Printers that work with CleanCloud
For automated printing, CleanCloud supports the following printer models:
Zebra TLP2824 Plus
Zebra TLP2824-Z
Zebra GX430T
→ See the Recommended Hardware article for more printer details.
How to use heat seals in your workflow
Create an order: Go to the New Order page. Turn on "Require Heat Seal" so staff must add a barcode.
Process the order: On the Assembly page, scanning an item puts it in a rack location. Scanning a heat seal on the New Order page preselects the customer and garment.
Complete the order: After all items are scanned, the order moves to the Ready page.
Extra notes
Heat seals are applied with a heat press. They last for about 150 cleaning cycles.
Each heat seal links to one customer and one garment, making history and tracking easy.
Multi-piece items need separate barcodes. Example: two-piece suit gets 2 barcodes.
In Plant mode, scanning a heat seal updates the order status automatically.
API limits: The
getGarment
API will not work with regular printed or one-time tags. It only works with genuine heat seal barcodes to keep tracking accurate.
